Mindfulness has been described as simply knowing what is happening, while it is happening, just as it is. It is a simple awareness that emerges when we pay attention on purpose with an
openness, curiosity and kindness.
We all have this capacity. We have all experienced those mindful moments when we feel really present with what is happening, whether watching a sunset or being at the birth of a child,
immersed in a favourite activity or walking in the woods. Most of the time, however, we are anything but mindful. Racing through our lives on autopilot, multitasking and caught up in
